The meeting will be this Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Meeting will be held in the Clements Auditorium at Hockaday School (intersection of Welch & Forest) and start at 7:30pm. Please use the parking lot with the entrance just east of Welch off of Forest. In case of inclement weather, we will be following Hockaday’s schedule for closing.
Yellow Rose Fiber Festival
The 3rd Annual Yellow Rose Fiber Fiesta will take place April 19-21, 2013 in the Guadalupe County/ Seguin Coliseum. This year it is even bigger and better! There will be more than 40 vendors and thousands of items available for crafters and artists to drool over. Raw fiber, yarn, and finished products will be available for purchase.
Artisans are able to participate in a wide variety of work-shops and educational sessions including spinning, weaving and basket making. With almost 100 hours of educational classes, and hands-on instruction.

Beth Brown Reinsel is Returning to Big D, but a little later than we originally planned
Beth Brown-Reinsel will still be teaching the same two workshops, but the dates have been moved to May 3 – 5, 2013 due to a schedule conflict. There are still spaces available.
Beth will be teaching 2 different workshops, running from 9am to 5pm each day, location to be determined.
Friday, May 3: Latvian Fingerless Mitts
Cost will be $100 for this course alone, $80 if you sign up for the entire weekend.
Course Description: Some of the beautiful knitting methods of Latvia will be studied in this class. Knit one of a pair of fingerless mitts to learn the following techniques which can be applied to mitten cuffs, sock tops or sleeves: a scalloped cuff, the herringbone braid and many subtle and beautiful variations of the half-braid. A choice of two-, three-, or four-color traditional motifs is incorporated in the main part of the mitt as well as the gussetless thumb and a picot edge at the end. Additional techniques to be discussed include knitting with two yarns in the right hand, two yarns in the left hand, or a yarn in each hand, as well as knitting with three or four colors.
Level: Intermediate (must be proficient with dp needles, magic loop, or two circulars)
Saturday and Sunday, May 4th and 5th: Fana Cardigan Workshop
Cost will be $160
Class Description: The classic details and traditional construction of the Norwegian Fana Cardigan sweaters will be taught in this two-day workshop through the knitting of a small sweater. Techniques to be learned include circularly knitted body and sleeves, square and drop shoulder armholes, cut-and-sew armholes and front, knitted self -facings, button bands, and 2-color star, band, and checkerboard patterns. Designing one’s own Fana cardigan will be discussed.
Level: Intermediate (Experience with double pointed needles and machine sewing is helpful).
