The Dallas Hand Knitters Guild has a busy few weeks planned as we celebrate the conclusion of our 20 years as a guild, kick off the twenty-first year with our first meeting of the fall and also host a special workshop, hopefully offering something for everyone. You might notice that this email is coming from a different email account – due to technical difficulties, we were forced to create a new MailChimp account. Please be patient with us as we learn new tools.
First off is our Twentieth Anniversary Tea, to be held this Sunday, August 26 from 2:45 to 5:15 at All Saints Catholic Church Fellowship Hall at 5231 Meadowcreak Drive in Dallas. We sent out over 600 invitations to the tea, trying to contact each and every guild member from the last 20 years. The tea will include a look back at 20 years of guild history, along with a program on Mitered Knitting presented by Linda Lucente of Jennings Street Yarn. If you somehow missed your invitation or forgot to RSVP, we need to know immediately that you are planning to attend, so please contact Rojean Taylor by phone or text at 214-534-1903 or email to r0jean@verison.net. We have already placed our order for food and if we need to make any changes, we need to let our caterer know ASAP. For those of you who have RSVPed, please remember to come, bring your knitting and something for show and tell.
Next up will be our Fall Kick-off meeting on September 4, 7:30pm at Hockaday School in the Clements Auditorium at 11600 Welch Road in Dallas. Please use the parking lot with the entrance just east of Welch off of Forest. In case of inclement weather, we will be following Hockaday’s schedule for closing. Our speaker for the September meeting will be Amy Hendrix from Madelinetosh, talking to us about color. If you have spent any time looking at the wonderful colorways of Madelinetosh yarns, you know this will be a special evening.
Last in our flurry of fall activities, we will be hosting a one day workshop with Heather Ordover of Craftlit: A Podcast for Anyone Who Loves Books. Heather’s podcast is widely acclaimed and you can check out more information at http://crafting-a-life.com/craftlit/. She is also a knitting instructor and we are still working on choosing which one-day workshop we will be offering. As September 16 is quickly approaching, we will have more details for you very shortly. Contact Sheryl Dial at dallasunravel@yahoo.com for more information or to reserve your spot in the workshop.
Lastly, we have just learned that KERA, our local PBS affliliate, is going to start carrying the program Knitting Daily, starting on Saturday, September 1 at 7:30am. Some of us have been hoping to see this program shown in the DFW area and are looking forward to seeing what all the buzz has been about.
It looks like 2012-13 will be a busy and rewarding year for the guild. We hope that all of you will be able to join in the fun!!
