Knitting-Related Volunteer Opportunity!
We have received a request for knitting teachers:

My name is Keara Williams and I work for Urban League of Greater Dallas, a non-profit organization and I am reaching out for your help (if you are available). I am placed at an apartment complex (Rosemont@Sierra Vista) as an Activity Coordinator and we recently conducted a survey to see what events I can hold here on site that will bring the residents out to participate. Well most people wanted to do hands on activities like knitting, sewing, art & crafts. So I would like to know is there any possible way that someone from your place of business could come to my site and hold a knitting class for the residents that reside here? I look forward to your response also any suggestions you may have.

Thank you,

Continue reading »]]> Patricia Kalthoff will be the featured speaker for our DHKG April Meeting. Her program is going to focus on armhole and shoulder treatments in some of Elizabeth Zimmermann’s lesser known designs. For example: Kangaroo Pouch, the Seamless Set-in Sleeve, the Epaulet & Saddle Shoulder sweaters, we will look at short row shaping & other ways to create sleeve caps and neck/shoulder shaping. Along the way, Patricia will touch on some of EZ’s favorite little techniques such as hems, phony seams and garter stitch seaming. (Time Permitting, of course!!)

Patricia currently lives in Austin. She is a knitting technique junkie. She loves to read about a knitting technique then pick up her knitting needles and test it out. Her knitting curiosity is to our benefit. She is a published knitting designer ( Interweave Knits, Knitters, Hill Country Weavers) and teaches at Taos Wool Festival and Colorado Wool Festival. Patricia has worked a couple of yarn shops as well.

She and her husband, Stephen, relocated to Austin from Frisco, TX 15+ years ago. When in the Dallas area she served on the DHKG Board as a Secretary and later as President. And is still a supportive DHKG member from afar.

This program will be jammed packed with techniques–you will not want to miss. Also at this meeting we will be having our election of officers for next year.

Meeting to be held on April 2, 2013, 7:30pm at Hockaday School in the Clements Auditorium at 11600 Welch Road in Dallas. Please use the parking lot with the entrance just east of Welch off of Forest. In case of inclement weather, we will be following Hockaday’s schedule for closing.
